Silver Spur | 2018 TB Gelding | 17.1hh
Silver Spur ("Sterling") is a 17.1hh grey Thoroughbred gelding by Anchor Down out of Red Brunette. Sterling has substantial bone with a warmblood build. He is extremely athletic, a little quirky, but always game. This quality-bred horse sold for $47,000 as a yearling and $270,000 as a two-year-old on the track.
Sterling has rated miles in dressage at Training Level and is currently schooling First Level. He successfully competed at the 2023 Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover finishing 8th in dressage in a class of over 80 horses. He has also been started over fences slowly and confidently, competing locally over cross rails and schooling up to 2'6" with scope for more. We can see Sterling exceling as an eventing prospect.
Sterling loads, clips, and cross ties. He stands for the farrier and vet, and is shod with front shoes. UTD on vaccines/coggins/dental. He retired from the track with a fractured splint that is fully healed and is not expected to limit his future training.
Sterling would do best with a confident amateur in a program or a young professional to develop to his full potential. He needs a confident, quiet ride and a sense of humor in his training and handling. He can be mouthy and opinionated at times and is NOT suitable for beginners.
Sterling is lifetime registered with both USEF and USDF, and is registered with TIP.
Only the best of homes will be considered for this special horse! Availability and price subject to change at our discretion. Contact [email protected] for further information.
